Family of British aid worker killed in Gaza call for independent inquiry

The family of James Kirby, a World Central Kitchen aid worker killed in Gaza, have called for an independent investigation into his death and said neither British nor Israeli diplomats had been in touch, even though an internal Israeli inquiry said his death had been a tragic accident.

Kirby was among seven aid workers, including Britons John Chapman and James Henderson, who were killed when an Israeli airstrike targeted their clearly marked vehicle on 1 April. The Israeli inquiry led to the dismissal of two officers.

The statement was issued by Kirby’s cousin Louise on behalf of his family on the day of his memorial service in Bristol Cathedral.

Describing his death as a diabolical tragedy and a murder, the family said they were “still struggling to find answers and accountability for what happened”, pointing out the aid workers were travelling in a vehicle for which clearance had been given for them to carry out humanitarian work.

“The State of Israel says the murder was an accident. So we were surprised not to have had any contact or condolence from Israel’s ambassador to the UK in London or from any Israeli official,” the statement said.

“There must be a proper independent inquiry into the attack on innocent aid workers and for the evidence to be assessed if appropriate by a relevant court.”

The family say they have had no contact from the UK government since the aid workers’ deaths or received “any evidence whether a credible independent investigation is taking place or the results of any investigation if it has taken place”.

Kirby, 47, a former serviceman, was providing security for the convoy moving food to a warehouse in Gaza. World Central Kitchen (WCK) was at the forefront of efforts to create a maritime aid corridor from Cyprus.

An inquiry by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) found a drone operator mistakenly targeted the convoy after thinking it had been taken over by Hamas gunmen.

Three missiles were fired in three locations over five minutes. The first hit a car and some passengers escaped to another vehicle. That was then hit by a second missile. Some survivors tried to flee in a third car that was also struck. Everyone in the convoy was killed.

As well as the three Britons, the Australian national Lalzawmi Frankcom, Polish national Damian Sobol, Palestinian Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutahas and US-Canadian citizen Jacob Flickinger were also killed in the strike.

The Regime’s War on Cash Could Destroy the Economy

By Frank Shostak, Mises Institute

According to some “experts,” there is an urgent need to remove cash from the economy. It is held that cash provides support to the “shadow economy” and permits tax evasion. Another justification for its removal is that, in times of economic shocks, which push the economy into a recession, the run for cash exacerbates the downturn—it becomes a factor contributing to economic instability. Moreover, it is argued that, in the modern world, most transactions can be settled by means of electronic funds transfer. Money in the modern world is allegedly an abstraction.

The emergence of money

Money emerged because barter could not support the market economy. A butcher, who wanted to exchange his meat for fruit, might not be able to find a fruit farmer who wanted his meat, while the fruit farmer who wanted to exchange his fruit for shoes might not be able to find a shoemaker who wanted his fruit. The distinguishing characteristic of money is that it is the general medium of exchange. It has evolved as the most marketable commodity. On this process, Mises wrote,

“…there would be an inevitable tendency for the less marketable of the series of goods used as media of exchange to be one by one rejected until at last only a single commodity remained, which was universally employed as a medium of exchange; in a word, money.”

Similarly, Rothbard held that,

Just as in nature there is a great variety of skills and resources, so there is a variety in the marketability of goods. Some goods are more widely demanded than others, some are more divisible into smaller units without loss of value, some more durable over long periods of time, some more transportable over large distances. All of these advantages make for greater marketability. It is clear that in every society, the most marketable goods will be gradually selected as the media for exchange. As they are more and more selected as media, the demand for them increases because of this use, and so they become even more marketable. The result is a reinforcing spiral: more marketability causes wider use as a medium which causes more marketability, etc. Eventually, one or two commodities are used as general media—in almost all exchanges—and these are called money.

Since the general medium of exchange emerged from a wide range of commodities, money is a commodity. Again, according to Rothbard,

Money is not an abstract unit of account, divorceable from a concrete good; it is not a useless token only good for exchanging; it is not a ‘claim on society’; it is not a guarantee of a fixed price level. It is simply a commodity.

Moreover, in the words of Mises, “…an object cannot be used as money unless, at the moment when its use as money begins, it already possesses an objective exchange value based on some other use.” Why must this be the case? Rothbard explains further,

In contrast to directly-used consumers’ or producers’ goods, money must have pre-existing prices on which to ground a demand. But the only way this can happen is by beginning with a useful commodity under barter, and then adding demand for a medium to the previous demand for direct use (e.g., for ornaments, in the case of gold).

Hence, money is that for which all other goods and services are traded. Through an ongoing selection process over thousands of years, people settled on gold as money. In today’s monetary system, the money supply is no longer gold, but coins and notes issued by the government and the central bank. This fiat-money still has exchange-value because of its prior connection with true money and the inertia caused by the fact that it is already accepted as a general medium of exchange. Consequently, coins and notes still constitute money, known as cash, which are employed in transactions. Goods and services are exchanged for cash.

The Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act

By James Roguski

The Canadian government is on the verge of passing legislation to create a pandemic prevention and preparedness plan WITHOUT first having an official review and analysis of the response to COVID-19.

IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED NOW!

If you live in Canada, scroll down to take immediate action. If you live anywhere else around the world, please help spread the word far and wide.

The Canadian government is on the verge of passing legislation to create a pandemic prevention and preparedness (C-293) plan WITHOUT first having an official review and analysis of the response to COVID-19.

Before any plans are made of how to respond to a future “pandemic” there must be an independent review of the various government’s response to the COVID-19 “pandemic.” Serious mistakes were made with COVID-19 including violations of fundamental rights and freedoms and the medical ethics of informed and voluntary consent. These mistakes must be acknowledged and rectified.

The Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act was passed by the House of Commons on June 5, 2024, with 164 votes in favour and 144 votes against. The Liberals, NDP, and Green Party all voted in favour of this new legislation, while the Conservative Party and Bloc Quebecois voted against it.

Bill C-293 has already had its first reading in the Canadian Senate, and they will decide to either pass, amend, or reject C-293 at some point during the next session starting September 17, 2024.

The Canadian Senate will be in session starting September 17, 2024…

Inside huge ‘Human Anthill’ the world’s most crowded apartment block home to 20,000 people where you NEVER have to leave

THIS is the world’s most crowded apartment block that houses 20,000 people – but residents never have to leave.

The unbelievable building in Russia contains a whopping 3,708 apartments with 35 entrances and 25 floors.

Situated near St. Petersburg, the massive “Human Anthill” has blown people away by it’s enormity – and left some questioning what food deliveries might look like here.

Most apartments are one or two-beds and there’s an average of around four to six apartments on each floor.

And presumably a relief for residents, each section of the complex has four speedy elevators.

The giant apartments popped up in 2015 – and its popularity has soared since being on the market.

The block’s entire first floor is rented out to businesses which are hugely convenient for residents and makes the plot almost like its own city.

A user on Russian social media claims the building has unbelievable facilities for residents.

These include seven food shops, three beauty salons, a private kindergarten, numerous cafe’s and a post office amongst other things.

They also added that they “once spent half a year without leaving the premises” due to the complex having everything they needed.

The mega-structure makes the Shard look tiny as it towers over it by nearly 500ft.

Not only is it hailed the tallest structure in Europe, but it is the 16th tallest building in the world.
